About me…

My Empty Nest
My Empty Nest

I am Janet…a woman with an empty nest and a longing heart to fill my home in ways that bring a warm welcome, peace, playfulness, and rest.  I have been married for 38 years to Larry, the loyal love of my life, and together we have two children, now adult men, Aaron age 35 and Adam age 32.  We invested heavily in these young men when they were boys, and now they bring us great joy.  Aaron is an associate pastor at a Vineyard Church in Ohio, and Adam a civil engineer in Washington.  In addition, Aaron brought a lovely, gracious young woman, Adrienne, into our lives as our daughter-in-law, and they now are parents to two boys, Titus and Ezekiel (Zeke).

Larry and I relocated a few years ago from one state to another due to a job change, leaving our “kids” and many long-term friends back in our home state.  Now I enjoy a new lifestyle of country living and an early, unexpected “retirement” for me, in addition to the empty nest.  I founded and coordinate a writers’ ministry called Heartland Writers Circle, and serve as a volunteer Creative Writing Leader for United Adoration.

Most days, I view the world as an awe-inspiring place, jam packed with evidence of an amazing, loving Creator.  My favorite quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Nature is too thin a screen; the glory of the omnipresent God bursts through everywhere.”  My quest is to peek through that screen into the glory at every chance and share it with others.  I enjoy the outdoors, walking, gardening, cooking, hospitality, event planning, decorating, crafting, reading, and writing.  I love woman-talk, good coffee, encouraging encounters, and hearty laughter.

It is my hope that this blog will invite you into my world of discovery ~ there is fresh, new life after children are raised, jobs are finished, and your heart is still longing for more!
